The (AW) blog-chain: diciembre.

The boys and girls over at Absolute Write (a very fine forum full to the brim with immensely talented and knowledgeable people), they host a monthly blog-chain event. From the looks of it, there is more than a handful of folks who like it. This is my first time with it, of course. I hadnt ever done something like it before but the enthusiasm there is catching—and thankfully a few other uninitiated bloggers decided to take part in it too. With this, it appears to me, you can strut your stuff before a supportive, eager audience and pick up a few cheap traffic hits while you’re at it. My sort of thing, really.

The theme, then, for the month of December is hint fiction. Hint fiction, in layman’s terms, is the diabolic, fingerbleeding, soulsucking construction of a story with a measly twenty-five words. As the name implies, the story is supposed to hint at something more, something grander, deeper, really in there. If you have never given it a whirl I wouldnt recommend it. You’d be smarter than I am. It isnt a fast process and with all due respect it is a pain in the you-know-where.

All right then. Preface aside now, here is what I conjured up:

Nighttime at University

Breath visible. Stumbled off her high-heels, bare thighs clapping sidewalk. Gravel clings to the raw flesh below her hemline. She welcomes night or anything else.

Well. There we have it. My first blog-chain entry. In some vacuum there’s a sense of pride looking for this piece. That said, please peruse the rest of the chain. There’s some good work:

These hint fictions are deceptively evil, aren’t they. Nice, evocative word choices. Welcome to the chain gang.

Did someone kill her or is that just my demented mind?

Well done! I’m guessing that’s why they say walk with someone at night on campus? 🙂

Very poetic! And, as I can attest from personal observation, accurate.

  9. 19 December 2010 at 7:44 pm

Very mysterious. Is she dying? Or is she something dangerous?

    Nice job!
